Time:       0915  approx.  MEETING ON THE RAILWAY PLATFORM No 1

Distance:       approx  45 klms – undulating  mostly on trails.

Suits :     Adults with maintained bike

Description:   Train leaves Platform No 1 at    0927 on the Hurstbridge Line.    Train trip to Diamond Creek takes 60mins.  Picturesque cycling from Diamond Creek is 8 klms to Eltham then following the Main Yarra Trail to the City area.  Lunch stop along the way.  BYO nibbles.  Route may vary depending upon walking traffic & markets.

Meet:    More Park, Ballarat Rd, Ardeer  Mel  25 K9

Time;   1015 am.

Distance:  35 klms

Free local ride.

Description: After meeting at More Park the route takes us via the WRR path to Fitzgeralds Rd where we link up with the Deer Park wellness trail and continue in to Caroline Springs and the West waters lakeside Bistro/cafe for refreshments.  The return route is on the Kororoit Creek Trail and back to the More Park starting point.  Plenty of free parking at the start.

Date:  Saturday 1st April 2017.

Meet:  Nth Melbourne Railway Station

Time:   1015 am

Distance:  50 klms – return.

Cost:  Free,  need any maintained bike & MYKI card.

Description:  From Nth Melb it is a pleasant ride taking in many of Melbourne’s trails.  Capital City, Main Yarra, Anniversary (Outer Circle) & Gardiners Creek.  This ride can be reversed depending on riders wishes.  Mostly on made trails, small amt on road riding.  Bail out points available.

  Report:   A great, well attended ride.  Busy but a pleasant well travelled route we rode clockwise this time.  Trying several different stops for coffee.   Track improvements on the Gardiners Creek Tail made for easy cycling. Distance covered 45 klms.

Meet:  South Geelong  Railway Station.

Finish:  South Geelong Railway Station.

Time:   1000 –  1015 am.

Distance:   max  65 klms

Description:  Many rides are available in the Bellarine Peninsula area.  Weather, rider turnout & discussions on the day will determine this ride.

One example is the The Bellarine Rail Trail from Sth Geelong to Queenscliffe and return – approx. 65 klms.

Riders to make your own way to / from the start & finish.

Report:   A hot day & good rider turn out.  Riders decided to follow the trail along the Barwon River past the old paper mill & towards Bunyip Pool.  Return to Geelong foreshore via the trail on the opposite side of the Barwon river.  Distance cycled 35 klms.  A busy weekend in the Bellarine area – rowing regatta was on.

Where:    Caltex Service station, cnr WRR & Sunshine Ave, Kealba   Melways 26 H2

Suits:   any rider, any maintained bike,   free ride

Distance:  25 klms – one way (approx.)

Description:  This ride follows the picturesque gravel Maribyrnong River trail to the Footscray area where we take some on – road routes to Williamstown area & the foreshore for well earned rest, coffee.  Return trip is planned.  Cyclists free to cycle/train ride home.  Several “bail-out” points on this easy route. Note – Maribyrnong River trail is NOT perfectly flat.

Report:  x10 riders, lots of sunscreen & a good ride.  Several rest stops to enjoy the Maribyrnong River & the lookout views.  The trail before Canning Reserve needs care as several sections are rather rocky for skinny tyres.  Great lunch at Williamstown.  Distance from Caltex servo start to Williamstown  30 klms.  All riders rode part way home.  Only x1 flat tyre.

Distance:    35 klms   (optional cycle return  70 klms)

Suits:    Adults, any maintained bike includes some on-road riding.  Need MYKI CARD.

Description:       From North Melbourne Station its a road route via South Melb to the light rail which we follow to Beach Parade and then in to St Kilda for some legendary cakes and morning tea.  Then its via the coast route to Ricketts Point and the Mordialloc area rides end.  Train return or cycle as individuals desire.

Report:  Very inclement weather had riders making a group decision to vary the route for this ride.  A good day was had by all.

Time:   1015 am:  35 klms (approx.)

Suits:   Any rider, any maintained bike, free ride

Description:  From the service station we head along the WRR path, into the Jacana wetlands and out towards West meadows for a well earned coffee stop.   One down hill to the valley floor which is negotiated again on the return trip.  A picturesque ride which follows part of the Moonee Ponds Creek & always good coffee.  No on- road riding on this trip.

Description:         After meeting at More Park it is a gentle flat ride along the WRR path & Federation trail towards Werribee.  After a tricky route at the Princes Fwy its on to Werribee Mansion for refreshments and hopefully the beautiful rose gardens.  Cycle to Werribee station for official rides end.
